1. Ordering.

1.1 What do I need to place an order with Seemore4less?

To order with Seemore4less all you need is a valid prescription which is less than 2 years old. When you have your eyes tested with a qualified optician, he or she by law, must provide you with a copy of your prescription. There is no obligation for you to purchase any spectacles or lenses from your High Street optician and you should not feel intimidated to do so.

1.2  How do you keep your prices so low?

Our business does not have expensive overheads associated with a retail outlet, such as expensive shop fitting and eye testing equipment. We do not offer medical advice and if you are experiencing any medical problems with your eyes, you must contact your optician or general medical practitioner.

1.3  Can I order my spectacles from seemore4less by telephone?

Yes. If you are unable to order your glasses via the online ordering system, or need some advice on your order, please call or email us and we will be happy to help.

2.  Prescription

2.1  I don’t understand my prescription.

Your optician should give you a clear, easy to read copy of your prescription. Even so, it may seem confusing, however, all we ask is for you to copy the details accurately as you progress through your online order. This includes making sure that the correct + or – sign is chosen exactly as it appears on your prescription. Alternatively, you can fax your prescription to us and we will read the information for you. We may ask to contact your optician to confirm your prescription details but we will always contact you first before doing this.

2.2  Can I use a contact lens prescription for ordering spectacles?

A contact lens prescription is only suitable for ordering contact lenses. It can often look very similar but can not be used for ordering spectacles. A valid eye test prescription, which is less than 2 years old, is the only information that we can accept.

2.3  Do I choose reading, distance or bifocal glasses?

Your optician will normally advise you as to what type of glasses you should use. However, if you are not sure, contact us and we will help you to make the right choice.  If you choose the distance option when ordering, the glasses will be suitable for seeing into the distance e.g. driving and watching the television. If you choose the reading option, the glasses will be suitable for close work e.g reading and close up vision. Bifocal glasses have an area for distance at the top of the lens and an area for reading at the bottom e.g. watching the television and looking down to read.

2.4  Can you use the prescription from my existing glasses?

Unfortunately, we cannot take a reading from your existing spectacles. A valid prescription less than 2 years old is required for us to process your order.

2.5  What is a PD (pupilary distance)?

This is the distance between the centre of the pupils in the right and left eye (the pupil is the black spot in the middle of the coloured part of the eye). It is a useful measurement to help position your prescription lenses within the frames you have chosen. Your optician will take this measurement as part of your eye test and can issue it with your prescription if you ask. We can choose an average PD measurement for you if you do not have this information, or, if you have an old pair of glasses that you can send to us, we can take this measurement from them and return them to you with your new glasses.

3.  Lenses

3.1  What are the lenses made of?

All the lenses we provide are made from the same optical quality plastics that you find at your High Street opticians. These are lightweight materials with a scratch resistant coating including CR39 (standard thickness) and High Index (thinner lenses). We currently do not offer glass lenses as part of this service.

3.2  Which lenses do I choose?

The most important factors to consider when ordering your glasses is what you want to wear them for and how you want them to look.  A standard CR39 material will give you clear, lightweight plastic lens which can be coated and tinted to suit your individual requirements. If your glasses still feel quite heavy with these lenses or there is more thickness than you would like, then a high index material may be more suitable.

High Index materials allow lenses to be made much thinner and lighter than standard CR39 lenses. A 1.6 index material will be up to 30% thinner and lighter than standard lenses. 1.67 index materials will be up to 40% thinner and lighter than standard lenses. They are also more flexible as well, which is ideal for rimless glasses.

Bifocals are a great choice for those with a different prescription for distance and near vision. They allow you the flexibility to wear one pair of glasses and still be able to see clearly at all distances without the need to keep taking them on and off.

Transition lenses change colour depending upon the light conditions. Whilst indoors, the lenses remain almost completely clear because UV light is greatly reduced. When outdoors, the lenses change colour depending on the strength of UV. The brighter the sun, the darker the lenses become. At night they remain almost completely clear. This lens is UV protective.

Polarised lenses are a fixed tinted lens suited to daytime activities. It is the most effective lens in reducing glare from the sun and is ideal for reducing reflections off water, driving, and some sports such as shooting and golf. It is also UV protective.

3.3  What are bifocals?

These are lenses which have a large area of distance vision at the top of the lens and then has an area or segment at the bottom of the lens, which has a prescription specifically for close work. There are various different shapes and sizes of segment available. Each segment type has its own benefits and are usually recommended depending on what the glasses will generally be used for or what you are used to wearing.

There are also benefits to different segment shapes depending upon your prescription. We supply D28 bifocals as standard. This is a good general use bifocal giving a reasonable area for close work. A larger D35mm segment is also available if a larger area for near vision is required, although it does look more obvious on the lens.

If you require a D35 or R24 bifocal, please request it in the additional information box when completing your order. Round segment bifocals are also available, but they are generally less common. These lenses are available and will be recommended with certain prescriptions or if you have worn them before.

3.4  Can I have sunglasses?

Prescription sunglasses are available in a variety of colours. Grey tinted lenses are ideal for being around water and are most effective at preventing the brightest of the sun’s rays. Brown tinted lenses offer better contrast and therefore are more suited to driving and activities where more precise vision is needed. Other colours such as green, blue and pink are also available if you want something that looks a little bit different but are more fashion orientated. We recommend all sunglasses have UV protection which helps to prevent the harmful elements of light entering the eye.

3.5  What lens coating and tints are available?

All the lenses we provide are plastic and scratch-resistant coated as standard so they will remain in good condition with reasonable wear and tear.  Anti-reflective coatings are designed to reduce the amount of reflections from the front and back surface of the lens. This improves the clarity of vision through the lens and also enhances the appearance of the lens. It is particularly useful if you notice glare whilst driving at nigh,t or in the wet, or if you use a computer.

3.6  What are thinner lenses?

High Index materials allow lenses to be made much thinner and lighter than standard CR39 lenses. A 1.6 index material will be up to 30% thinner and lighter than standard lenses. 1.67 index materials will be up to 40% thinner and lighter than standard lenses. These lenses come as standard with a scratch-resistant coating and anti-reflective coatings to enhance the clarity of vision through the lens, which helps to prevent unwelcome scratches from daily wear and tear. Additionally, the are more flexible as well, which is ideal for rimless glasses.

3.7  What quality assurance do I have?

With every order processed, we always contact you by phone and confirm your order. Once your order is complete, a qualified dispensing optician checks every detail of your order to ensure the highest quality. Your spectacles are sent to you complete with hard case, microfibre cleaning cloth and securely packaged for delivery. Your glasses should reach you in perfect condition. If, however, they don’t, we promise a complete exchange or refund of your glasses, provided that you inform us of any problem within 14 days of the dispatch date.

4.  Frames

4.1  How do I choose the right frame size?

It is usually a good idea to have a look at the size of your own glasses and use this as a guide. There are normally 3 measurements printed or stamped onto the sides (arms) of the frame. 2 numbers will be together, separated by a square. The number on the left of the square tells you the lens width. The number on the right of the square tells you the width of the bridge. It isn't essential that they are exactly the same because most frames are adjustable at the bridge and sides. The 3rd number tells you the length of the sides.

Choose a frame that is as close to your own frame measurements as you can. It is not essential that they are exactly the same because most frames are adjustable.  If however, you are not sure what the measurements are of you own glasses, we will be happy to give you some help in choosing the right size. Alternatively, order a selection of frames on the ‘Try at home ’ service and make absolutely sure they are the frames for you.

4.2  What happens if my frames need adjustment after I have received them?

If a small adjustment is required, most opticians will be happy to do this for you.

4.3  Can I try the frames before I buy them?

No problem. You can order as many frames as you like and try them for shape and size. Order them on line Following the ‘try at home' . Alternatively, order them by calling us on 0845 2577167. We make a charge of £2.50 per frame + postage and packaging, which is non-refundable. All frames must be returned to us within 14 days or your credit card will be charged the full frame price, as marked on the frame price list. To return the frames to us you can re-use the packaging and we will provide a postage paid label for your convenience.

4.4 Can I use my existing frames?
